Treatment
Very fine needles. Very little to fear.
Acupuncture is a form of Traditional Chinese Medicine that offers an alternative to pills. Here is exactly what happens in a session, what it feels like, and how ACC fits in.
What to expect
An hour, in five quiet steps.
Consultation
We start by listening. You'll describe what's happening, how long it's been going on and what you've tried. If it's an accident injury, bring your ACC claim number.
Diagnosis
Pulse, tongue and gentle palpation help us read where your Qi is blocked or depleted. From this we choose the points and whether to add cupping or trigger-point work.
Needles
Single-use needles finer than a hair are placed at precise points. You may feel a dull ache, a little numbness or heaviness — the sign the point is working — but most people feel no pain.
Rest
You lie still and warm for around twenty minutes while the needles do their work. Many people drift off. The whole visit takes up to an hour.
Aftercare
Needles out, you'll get simple advice — rest, water, foods to favour or avoid for your constitution — and we'll suggest how many sessions to expect.
Sensation & safety
Does it hurt? Honestly, barely.
The needles are extremely fine, so most people feel nothing on insertion. Once a point is engaged you may notice a brief dull ache, numbness or a heavy, spreading warmth. That sensation — called de qi — is what we're looking for.
Acupuncture is very safe when practised by registered providers using sterile, single-use needles. Mild reactions such as a small bruise or feeling drowsy afterwards can occur and pass quickly. Tell us about any medication, pregnancy or bleeding disorders before we begin.

What regular treatment can do.
Results vary from person to person. Acute injuries often respond within a few sessions; long-standing conditions take a course of treatment.
Pain relief
Back, neck, shoulder, sciatica and rotator-cuff pain; headaches and migraine.
Freer movement
Reduced cramping and spasm, easier range of motion after injury.
Immune support
Helps the body's natural defences, especially through seasonal changes.
Calmer mind
Support for depression, anxiety and stress.
Better sleep
Deeper, more regular sleep without medication.
Energy & focus
Improved energy, concentration and reduced fatigue.
Circulation
Better blood flow, warmer hands and feet, faster recovery.
Whole-person care
Treatment of the pattern behind the symptom, not just the symptom.
No side effects
An alternative to pills — mild bruising or drowsiness are the most common reactions.
Cupping · $40 for 20 minutes
Lift, loosen, let go.
Glass cups create gentle suction that lifts tight fascia away from muscle, draws fresh blood into stiff tissue and eases knots across the back, shoulders and legs. It is often paired with acupuncture in the same visit.
Cupping leaves round marks that fade over a few days — they're not bruises and don't hurt, but plan around them if you have a photo shoot or a wedding.
Chinese herbs & diet therapy
Treatment that continues at the kitchen table.
Don matches foods and herbal formulas to your body constitution — warming or cooling, moistening or drying — so digestion, energy, sleep and fertility support keep improving between sessions. Ask about it at your visit.
ACC can cover acupuncture for injuries.
Injuries caused by an accident and treated by a registered provider may be covered, with a $20 co-payment per session. You need a claim number from your GP, physiotherapist or chiropractor — no separate referral for acupuncture is required, and the same claim covers physio, chiropractic or osteopathy alongside us. Our neighbours at Conifer Grove Physio & Pilates can lodge a claim for you.
